Some pedigree, huh? And despite all the reference points, Lonnie's music is totally his own, too. Listening to this set, it's hard to believe he's only recently returned to the Midwest from the warmer climes of Austin. Wintry lo-fi sketches and hometaping lonerisms in the grandest tradition of labels like Shrimper; Sing, Eunuchs!; and Unread Records (who released the great 'Hey Jack' 7"). Atonality and melody perfectly balanced, gloom tempered with romanticism, and optimism tempered with despair. So good.
