Israeli singer/songwriter Noa Babayof phones it in from Philadelphia, PA. Already making a name for herself in Israel, a lucky MySpace connection to Espers' Greg Weeks led her to move to Philly, where Weeks recorded her debut album at his own Hexham Head studio and released it on his own Language of Stone label. And just like that Noa was off and running.

With a voice that calls to mind Nico, Buffy Sainte-Marie, Joan Baez, or Diane Cluck, Noa wears her influences on her sleeve, because she doesn't know where else to wear them. Her music is intimate and lovely, slightly haunting, pure of form and free of pretense. Noa soaks up songcraft like a sponge, creating songs firmly situated in the grand traditions of those influences, without a hint of affectation or derivativeness. Once you realize you're not listening to, say, the aforementioned Nico, Buffy Sainte-Marie, Joan Baez, or Diane Cluck, you'll know it's unmistakeably Noa Babayof.
